How a hybrid system works
The hybrid inverter decides, second by second, where power comes from: solar first, then battery, then grid. When the grid fails, it switches the house (or selected backup circuits) to battery in milliseconds, so fans, lights, the fridge, internet and even an inverter AC keep running.
- Solar panels
- Hybrid inverter (e.g. Solis, GoodWe, Growatt)
- Lithium or lead-acid/tubular battery bank
- Net meter (optional)
- Changeover, breakers and earthing
Choosing batteries
Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries cost more up front but last many more cycles, charge faster, need no maintenance and can be discharged deeper. Tubular and lead-acid batteries such as AGS, Alaska, Osaka and Phoenix cost less and suit smaller backup needs.
Battery size depends on what you want to run and for how long. As a rough guide, running 1 kW of load for 4 hours needs about 5 kWh of usable storage.
What decides the price
System size, inverter brand, and above all the battery type and capacity. A hybrid system costs more than on-grid because of the batteries and the more capable inverter, but it is the only option that saves money and keeps the lights on.
Frequently asked questions
Hybrid solar system kya hota hai?
Hybrid system mein solar panels, hybrid inverter aur batteries hoti hain, aur ghar grid se bhi connected rehta hai. Din mein solar se ghar chalta hai aur battery charge hoti hai; load shedding ya raat mein battery se backup milta hai.
Hybrid vs off-grid solar: what's the difference?
A hybrid system stays connected to the grid and can use net metering; an off-grid system has no grid connection at all and relies fully on panels and batteries. Hybrid is the usual choice in cities like Lahore.
Can a hybrid system run an AC on battery?
Yes, an inverter AC can run on battery if the inverter and battery bank are sized for it. Battery time depends on battery capacity, so we size it to how long you want the AC to run.
Which battery is best for a hybrid system?
For daily cycling, lithium (LiFePO4) gives the longest life. For occasional backup on a tighter budget, tubular batteries are a sensible choice. We recommend after looking at your loads and budget.
